WHY WE NEED TO BUILD THE LEBANESE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN
 WITHIN SIX MONTHS

Irrespective of who will be elected as President of the Republic before the 25th May 2014, or whether the mandate of the current President is extended, the next parliamentary elections ought, by law, to be held in November 2014.

Our aim is to provide the candidates for these elections with a proposed National Plan that each party and independent candidate will have the opportunity to use as a “pro-forma” program upon which to build their own.

Our aim is to seek to transform the electoral battle in November 2014 into a battle of “plans” ,and thus do away with  the run of the mill corrupt elections of the past that we all are  too familiar with.

A facebookist wrote in reply to my request to sign a petition:
“Inshallah , ya rab, ....but I don't believe in petitions...don't u see how Lebanese EKHER HAMMON presidential elections?! ....petition - al faadi...sorry...but I signed anyway.”
I wrote, thanking him:

Thank you. You are right, of course.

Petitions, by themselves will not help. They are another form of demonstrations, with banners, shouting, speeches. They all lead to nothing because, behind them there is nothing: no thought out proposals and no serious will to implement them.

A house does not get built through speeches, but through hard work, laying one stone over the other. Similarly a Nation does not get built the way they have gone about it for seventy years, with the exception of the six Chehab years.

Now, we all find ourselves empty handed. We have skyscrapers, most of them empty, but we have no electricity. We have two million cars but people are dying of cancer because of them. We have universities but the graduated students are shipped abroad. We have the "false attire" of democracy but it does not really work. We have falsely functioning banks but we shall soon reach the point of no return with a bankrupt state.

They tell us that "gold" will come out of the ground, in the form of oil and gas,  though our country is already heavily mortgaged through the implacably rising Debt.

Is it not time to wake up, friends?
